The film based on the story of Guy de Maupassant’s circles around the main character who is a young, struggling journalist in the movie and how he rose to fame and name and slowly became the most successful man in Paris. The ladder he although climbs comes as an effort of a very influential and glamorous lady of that city whose part is being played by Christina Ricci in the film.
