2012 Review: Enjoy the destructive imagination of Roland Emmerich

Roland Emmerich is well known in the world of cinema by directing films on a huge scale disasters, being the clearest examples of “Independence Day”, “Godzilla” and “The Day After Tomorrow”. This year he returned with one of the most visually stunning films in history with “2012″.

As most people know, there is a myth that haunts the date of 21 December 2012 in which he said that the world could come to an end, all based on mere speculation and misrepresentations of elements that together have nothing to do with each other. And yet, if there is a widespread psychosis that date. However, exploiting fully this context, Emmerich makes a stunning visual delivery of more than two hours long and will go down in history as one of the best films with visual effects that have been created until today.

The story is Curtis Jackson, played by John Cusack, who is a successful writer for nothing and that tells novels about travel to outer space. In life things do not go well, and that to address the void that lets economic writing, works as a driver of an ex-boxer and businessman who is dedicated precisely to promote boxing matches in Las Vegas. Besides all, is separated from his wife and children, who began a new family with the new boyfriend of his mother.

True to the custom of Emmerich, there are other stories embedded in the same wrong and somehow corelacionan each other. In this film, a young scientist named Adrian Helmsley is the one who finds something wrong with the Earth’s core, which will cause movement in the tectonic plates and overheating, in short, a huge global chaos. Working with the Government of the United States establishes a plan to rescue as many people possible with the imminent crisis. And this is where in 2012 begin to manifest supernatural forces creating chaos like never before been seen, and closely following Curtis Jackson in an attempt to save his family from all this catastrophe.

The movie lasts about two hours and forty minutes. The first hour seems to have no end because that is where the situation arises in a very slow and unattractive, but it is necessary to pass through it because all elements are set up before the real action begins. Turning this period, the film finally starts to take off slowly, going from boring to exciting in just a few seconds (as would happen in real life).

From there on, everything is action, action and clear action, with their emotional breaks necessary. Different situations the way they arrive at their own end, and as many are finding the way to salvation is a bit unbelievable, but enjoyable. The inner life of the characters is not as strong as it could have been but a second opinion anyway, are overshadowed by the so masterly as the special effects are handled.

Definitely, the best thing this movie has is this: the visuals are the best I’ve seen in film in my life. Although the film itself offers nothing new, the visualization of all disasters and action sequences are truly impressive, and a personal opinion I think it just takes it out with the ticket price.

This movie I recommend broadly to the public at large. Although, as is thought, if it is somewhat predictable and somewhat biased as all disaster movies, but those who want to be entertained and impressed by it a long time I think that will not leave a bad impression.

+ GOOD

+ The last hour and forty minutes of the movie keeps roaring

+ The performances are good in general

+ There are moments where if you feel a tension of not knowing what will happen

+ In case you did them was clear: The special effects are sublime.

- WRONG

- It is very predictable at some points

- The story of the protagonists does not offer anything new or interesting

- It’s Americanism. Speaking of country, not the football team.

- The first hour is very boring and tedious, but necessary. Or toilet.

WHAT WE RECOMMEND 100%

Once you have seen the movie, highly recommend watching the documentary “Prophecies of 2012″ on the Discovery Channel. Ahi be clarified most of the doubts that have, especially that of “can this happen?
