Edge of Darkness Review: An emotional thriller

Edge of Darkness is a dark, emotional thriller in the borderland between politics and multinational interests. Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson) is a single father and experienced detective in Boston’s killing department. When his only child, 24-year-old Emma (Bojana Novakovic), killed by shots from a sawn of shotgun just outside their house, imagine all that Thomas was the target.

But it goes quickly realized that Emma may actually have been the goal and he throws himself without thought for their own safety in a dangerous exploration of her daughter’s secret, which may be the key to her murder. The investigation quickly leads him into a paranoid world of cold business practices, deceit and murder – in addition to the mysterious intermediary Darius Jedburgh (Ray Winstone) has started to remove all evidence in the case. Craven lonely quest for the truth about the murder of his daughter develops fast for a human Davids battle against a ruthless conspiracy faceless masterminds.

Cast: Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Caterina Scor Sone

It is seven years since we last saw Mel Gibson on the big screen, and many have high expectations for his comeback in Edge of Darkness.

Edge of Darkness is based on an old BBC series from 1985 of the same name ( “Edge of Darkness BBC TV series), so once again we have to do with a remake. I have never seen the original series, so for me it does absolutely nothing.

The film down quietly, but 5-10 minutes into the film is the pace turned up and the film is shot in time, actually literally, as Craven (Mel Gibson) daughter is killed. The pace of the whole movie kept fairly high, and although the movie is sometimes a little slow, there will be seasoned well with a few unexpected action scenes. The plot has been seen before, but the movie still manages to surprise and make a few twists as we had expected.

Mel Gibson plays quite well as the vengeful father, Thomas Craven, who has nothing to lose. Also doing a Ray Winstone very good job as the assassin regeringshyret, Jedburgh, who probably have little pity for Craven, and therefore let him continue the investigation into her daughter’s murder.

The film is by no means innovative, we’ve seen it before, mix equal parts with payback taken, and then we actually Edge of Darkness. This makes not much, the biggest problem I have with the movie is that sometimes we skate very quickly over the story, it actually works at times as though you have cut a lot out to keep the movie’s overall length down.

Despite this I felt quite herself during the entire movie, and therefore the film can easily be recommended as a pretty good popcorn entertainment, whether you see it in the cinema or wait for the DVD / blu-ray display. Under normal circumstances, would a film like “Edge of Darkness probably only deserves 3 stars, but at some level, the film only, and therefore it is just sneaks up on 4 stars. Enjoy!
