Together with his best friend Grover (Brandon T. Jackson), he ends up in “Camp Half Blood, where he trained with other young demigods. There he gets to that, his mother from Hades (Steve Coogan) is held captive, which she intends to release only in exchange for stolen shortly before the bolt of Zeus (Sean Bean). Along with Grover and Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario), daughter of Athena, Percy makes his way to find the flash, to save his mother and to prevent a war between the gods.

” Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” is not the first film adaptation of a Young tries on the success of the Harry Potter series to jump. In the last few years have been “The Golden Compass,” “Eragon,” “Winter Solstice – The hunt for the six characters of Light” and many others tried and failed. The producers of “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief ” but wanted to leave nothing to chance and therefore have signed on with Chris Columbus ( “Kevin – Allein zu Haus”), the director, who is also in Harry Potter’s successful start in the cinema, the reins had. In addition, it has shrunk in the occupation of the adult roles, and no expense and trouble with Uma Thurman ( “Kill Bill”), Pierce Brosnan (James Bond 007 – Goldeneye “), Sean Bean (” Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship) , Kevin McKidd ( “Rome”), Catherine Keener ( “Being John Malkovitch”), Steve Coogan ( “Tropic Thunder”) and Rosario Dawson ( “Sin City”) hired a whole series of first-class and well-established movie stars.

During the occupation of the young people had, however, not quite as lucky hand. The three young protagonists are indeed very charismatic, and do not do their job badly, but act (as opposed to most of the “Harry Potter” characters) do not like real children, but more like the usual artificial Hollywood teens with flawless skin, plucked eyebrows and hip styled hairdos. Content has taken one in the appointment of these three, some liberties, because the book Percy is just 12 years old, while he was in the movie as early as high school age is, therefore, at least 15 This should not bother most fans of the novel, like most other changes. Unlike the “Harry Potter” series, namely, the film works well for those viewers who have the books have never heard of. It has never been the feeling that large parts of the plot have been omitted or that you need more information to understand all backgrounds. The entry should be easy especially those viewers who are already roughly familiar with Greek mythology.

What does not really succeed, is the world in which the story is credible to be effective. The mishmash of Greek and sagas of our time usually has more silly or even unintentionally funny. The film, although it manages to make this idea quite amusing to one, however not as captivating as other fantasy worlds of the type of “Harry Potter” or even “Lord of the Rings.” The plot is also rather predictable, and will probably only really liked children and adolescents. The basic scheme is shamelessly copied in “Harry Potter”, without reaching its inventiveness and depth. Very successful, however, are the effects that can definitely see him. Especially the half-human half-animal creatures such as centaurs and satyrs are convincingly implemented.

Conclusion:

” Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” is an entertaining fantasy film for children and adolescents. The story is very strong in “Harry Potter” and partially ajar a bit silly, but believes the movie but with great effects and good actors in the adult characters.
