Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Review

Let me start by saying that I knew this was a computer game and a fairly popular one, but that was all.  I had no idea about the storyline and having only seen one trailer, my expectations was for nothing more than a fun action romp in a fantasy setting with plenty of parkour.

The plot involves Dastan an orphan that was adopted by the King Sharaman and is the youngest of the 3 princes of Persia. Persia being the ancient empire that stretched from the Euprahtes in the west to the Indus River in the East and from the caucasus, Caspian and aral seas in the North to the persian gulf and the Gulf of Oman in the South.

Life is good and Persia is revered by all until they invade the holy city of Alamut where Dastan encounters Princess Tamina, who it turns out is the guardian of the Sands of Time.  From there on in, everything goes to hell, or at least the ancient Persian equivalent of hell and Dastan and Tamina end up on the run together against the backdrop of the Moroccan desert, encountering dodgy businessmen, African knife throwers, ostriches and deadly assassins. And I have to say the host of extras, sorry, supporting artistes, gave the film a grandiose feel like they used to have back in the day.

Splice Review

Splice opens with a moment of ominous creation…the viewer knows this based on the background music playing over the opening credits (a series of veins bulging across pale skin to spell out cast and crew). In a Toronto lab, genetic engineers Clive Nicoli (Adrien Brody, who looks physically wounded at having been cast) and Elsa Kast (Sarah Polley, seemingly wondering if this role will kill her career) act as midwives to a hybrid lifeform (dubbed “Ginger”) looking like a cross between the monstrous puddlinglike offspring in David Lynch’s Eraserhead and a phallic tumor from David Cronenberg’s The Brood.
Seeing the potential for incredible advances in medicine (to say nothing of the thrill of being the figureheads of a scientific revolution), Nicoli and Kast approach Joan Chorot (simona Maicanescu) of the Nucleic Exchange Research and Development (NERD, a groaner of such proportions that I almost yelped out a derisive laugh during the press screening I attended) Corporation with a proposal to use human DNA in the next phase of their experiment. Chorot, showing surprising sense (far more than either Nicoli or Kast), says no, so the rockstar splicers (or at the very least middle-aged slackers) show none and begin their own experiment, using human DNA mixed with that of one of their hybrids to create yet another new lifeform.

Remember Me Review: Half-baked romantic drama

This movie contains spoilers about the time frame during which the movie’s ending transpires.

One suspects Remember Me would earn the official Nicholas Sparks Seal of Approval, if there was such a thing. This movie is the kind of overwrought, half-baked romantic drama that has become Sparks’ stock-and-trade. So, for those who aren’t concerned about an estrogen overdose and for whom two “legitimate” Sparks adaptations are not enough (the recent Dear John and the upcoming The Last Song), Remember Me effectively fills the gap. There’s more contrived melodrama in these two hours than romance fans could reasonably hope for.

Remember Me represents Robert Pattinson’s attempt to prove he can do more than sparkle like a faux vampire, but the case he presents is not convincing. He spends most of the movie trying to channel James Dean. Dean may have been overrated, but he had talent, charisma, and swagger. Pattison seems to lack the first two qualities and he may be faking the third. (Although that, in and of itself, would be a form of acting.) He spends most of this movie brooding, which allows him to work on his scowl. To be fair, some of Pattinson’s low-key scenes with his female co-star, Lost’s Emilie de Ravin (who is delightful) are nicely done, but the actor fails to impress when sharing the screen with the likes of Chris Cooper and Pierce Brosnan. The word “lightweight” seems entirely appropriate as a description of this leading man.

Alice in Wonderland Preview, Wallpapers, Posters, Screenshots and Trailers

A new animated version (with the technique of performance-capture and shooting live-action) of the story of “Alice in Wonderland” signed this time by Gothic Tim Burton. The classic story of Lewis Carroll, published for the first time in 1865 and then traveling on the big screen first by Norman Z. McLeod in 1933 and then – in the animated version – from Walt Disney in 1951, relive in a technologically advanced, highly personal and directly from the original masters of dark.
Alice is seventeen and runs from a supercilious party and follows the White Rabbit down the hole, which brings it back again to Wonderland. The White Rabbit thinks he has the right girl, the one who has visited the magical world ten years ago. But Alice does not remember his previous visit in Wonderland, whose creatures are ready for a revolt and hoping and waiting for Alice to help them. But she wants to do it? It can do?

Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska to Alicia, 19, who returns to a magical world where being a girl ventured to meet his old friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. Alice embarks on a fantastic journey to find his true destiny and end the reign of terror of the Red Queen.

‘Alice in Wonderland’ for Disney combines the beauty of the books of Lewis Carroll “Alice in Wonderland” (1865) and “Through the Looking Glass” (1871), with amazing special effects and characters most charismatic of the history of literature.

It is a fantasy film that combines live actors with the techniques of motion capture and stop-motion.The film will be released in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3-D and 2-D in traditional cinemas.

An Education Review: Get educated with An Education

Despite a few lengths and a bit discouraged runaway finale can please Lone Scherfig Coming of age drama entirely. This is not so much to Nick Hornby’s screenplay debut but the one on the excellent facilities and atmosphere and on the other, but also to the superb performances of the ensemble cast.

2012 Review: Enjoy the destructive imagination of Roland Emmerich

Roland Emmerich is well known in the world of cinema by directing films on a huge scale disasters, being the clearest examples of “Independence Day”, “Godzilla” and “The Day After Tomorrow”. This year he returned with one of the most visually stunning films in history with “2012″.

As most people know, there is a myth that haunts the date of 21 December 2012 in which he said that the world could come to an end, all based on mere speculation and misrepresentations of elements that together have nothing to do with each other. And yet, if there is a widespread psychosis that date. However, exploiting fully this context, Emmerich makes a stunning visual delivery of more than two hours long and will go down in history as one of the best films with visual effects that have been created until today.
